Current GPI Player of the Year leader Adrian Mateos might have lifted the trophy in the $25K Super High Roller Series Mystery Bounty last night, but if money is the ultimate means of keeping score in poker, Phil Ivey came out on top.
Ivey lost to Mateos heads-up, picking up $113,000 for his second-place finish, but he nabbed the two biggest bounties of $200K and $100K to make his total cash for the day a cool $413,000.
It's no surprise to see Mateos win. He's been crushing in Cyprus this week, with three cashes prior to yesterday's victory. That victory gave him his fifth PGT title and third major tournament win of the year. Mateos has also taken down Triton Jeju's $30K NLHE for $1,175,000 and Triton Montenegro's $50K NLHE for $1,761,000. He's now closing in on the $50 million lifetime earnings mark.
He got $162,000 on top of the trophy, along with three bounties of $100,000, $40,000, and $25,000. That left his total for the Mystery Bounty win at $327,000.
Three-way all-in for the title
Unusually, it was a three-way all-in that decided the title.
Quan Zhou shoved on the button with only for Mateos to re-shove with . Ivey made the call with and while he took the lead on the flop, Mateos had a flush draw and got there on the turn.
Sorel Mizzi, Sam Greenwood and Seth Davies rounded out the money places from the 40-runner field.
All eyes turn now to the $300K buy-in Super High Roller Bowl IX. The mega buy-in tournament starts on Friday and runs until Sunday with all three days being livestreamed. The coverage starts at 1pm ET exclusively on PokerGO.
