Purple jackets are back in season with the kick-off of the 2022 Poker Masters series. Jeremy Ausmus got off to a good start at this year's edition of the series, winning Event #1: $10,000 No Limit Hold'em for $204,000.
The opening event attracted 85 entries but by the time Day 1 ended, there were just seven players left. Ausmus lead those seven with a significant chip lead.
The final table was name-dense, with Cary Katz (7th - $42,500) and Erik Seidel (3rd - $102,000) busting out before Nick Shulman and Ausmus went heads up for the title.
Shulman was behind in chips at the start of heads up play. A tug of war ensued in which the chip lead moved to Shulman and back. Ausmus moved all in putting Shulman to a decision for his whole stack and Shulman called.
Shulman flipped over the A3 off-suit and Ausmus showed pocket sevens. The dealer killed Shulman quickly with seven and two high cards on the flop.
Shulman took home $144,500 for second place.
More Poker Masters action to come
Last year, the winner's jacket had to be tailored to Michael Addamo's dimensions. However, Addamo has yet to cash this year, but do keep an eye out for him when the series starts to wind down. Last year, Addamo's victory came at the last minute. He won the jacket with a pair of wins in the last two events of the series
Event #2—another $10,000 no-limit hold 'em event—is halfway done underway with Michael Brinkenhoff leading a shark-infested final table that included Daniel Negreanu, and still includes Masashi Oya and Alex Foxen.
