Mario "livinmydream1" Mosboeck beat out a huge field — 5,903 players — to take down the PokerStars SCOOP medium-level Main Event. He truly did get to live his dream this week as he earned life-changing money — $838,909 — in the $1,050 buy-in online poker tournament.
In the high SCOOP Main Event, a $10,300 buy-in tournament, an unknown player using the screen name "kZhh" ruled the field for $878,871 via a three-way chop against Dan "Dannyz0r" Borlan, who actually received a slightly higher amount ($894,551), and 3rd place Kayhan "KayhanMok" Roshanfekr ($791,074).
When the players agreed to the chop, Borlan, a Romanian player, held the chip lead. Thus, he earned a slightly higher payout after they played down to a winner. The player known as "kZhh," despite receiving less in the chop, is credited with the SCOOP title.
A player from the Netherlands using the screen name "Beowulf3182" finished in 4th place, good for $443,934. David "MissOracle" Yan, from New Zealand, took 5th place and earned a $325,098 payday. In 6th place was German poker star Christian Rudolph, who has had quite an impressive month of online poker. Rudolph took home $325,098 for his efforts.
The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker Main Event had 664 entries, creating a prize pool of $6,640,000. The $100 million guaranteed series wraps up on Wednesday.
Another big winner
Over in the medium SCOOP Main Event, Mosboeck earned far and away the biggest cash of his poker career. The Austrian poker pro outlasted 5,903 players, one of the largest fields ever for a $1,000 poker tournament, online or live. The champion received $838,909 after defeating "alimounda," who was playing on PokerStars in Greece, heads-up for the title. The runner-up took home $598,000. A player known on the poker site as "Morrison830," who hails from Argentina, finished in 3rd place and received $426,275.
That's the conclusion of the PokerStars SCOOP and GGPoker Spring Festival, two online poker events that combined to pay out more than $300 million. Attention now shifts to some even bigger events, live and online. GGPoker will host a $100 million WSOP Super Circuit Series in May, and Las Vegas will play host to a $10 million guaranteed event at the Wynn, along with a massive summer series at Venetian. And, of course, the 2021 World Series of Poker at the Rio in Las Vegas is only five months away.
