Liv Boeree announced yesterday the upcoming launch of her podcast, Win Win.
The former professional poker player has shifted her focus in recent years back towards the scientific community--Boeree holds a degree in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Manchester.
On Twitter, you can find Boeree offering her opinion on a wide array of subjects. The steadily brewing media and culture wars, the existential threat posed by misuse of artificial intelligence, social media's addictive algorithmic hold on users. Boeree's range of knowledge, coupled with her drive to learn more, should position her well as a podcast host.
In the introductory video, Boeree explains the concept behind the podcast: an exploration of competition, both good and bad, and the competitive forces that drive certain aspects of society. There's also a sneak peek into her conversation with first guest Molly Bloom.
The poker world should be well familiar with Bloom by now. The Olympic-level skier turned poker game runner. Host of nosebleed stakes for the rich and famous in Los Angeles and New York. Bloom's memoir Molly's Game was adapted to the screen by Aaron Sorkin.
Win Win will launch across all usual audio platforms and in video form on Boeree's YouTube channel.
A brief Q&A
PokerOrg spoke with Boeree to understand her decision to start the podcast and what to expect from Win Win.
PokerOrg: What prompted you to start a podcast? Why now?
Liv Boeree: I’ve been thinking about it for a few years, but never quite had the topic nailed down until recently! I’ve been doing a lot of research lately into the game theoretic/behavioral drivers of global issues, and want to help crowdsource solutions to those problems, and hope this podcast will help with that.
PO: Can you give us any hints at future guests? Any poker players on the horizon?
LB: Yes, there will be a few poker players over time! Although it’s going to be much broader than that, I want a real mix of philosophers, scientists, business leaders, sports people, to get a broad range of knowledge and views.
PO: How frequently can audiences expect new episodes?
LB: (laughs) Well, the goal is one every ten days, but knowing me it’ll be a bit slower than that.
PO: What about the podcast format excites you?
LB: Learning how to interview people! I’m used to being on the other side of it, and I’m only just realizing it’s a very different and difficult skill! So that’s going to be a fun challenge.
