Scott Seiver will have capped the best poker summer of his life by being named the World Series of Poker's 2024 Player of the Year when the 2024 POY leaderboard receives its final update early Wednesday morning. Seiver won three bracelets during the 2024 WSOP while also making two other final tables, and he easily outdistanced all other players over the course of the past eight weeks.
The outcome remained in doubt for several days following the conclusion of live-event play at the Horseshoe and Paris casinos in Las Vegas, as a small handful of online events remained to be completed and entered into the WSOP's POY points-calculating system. Ninety-three of the 99 live WSOP events were eligible for POY points consideration, as were all 30 online bracelet events conducted on WSOP.com's three-state (Michigan. Nevada, and New Jersey) platform.
Seiver amassed a lead of just over 600 points against his closest POY competitor, Michael Rocco, through the last of the summer's live bracelet events. Though several players had a chance to overtake Seiver with a win in the final few online events, none of those players succeeded. The final leaderboard may show some slight shifting in positions two through ten (and below) once the last results are tallied, but all results from the online events are now available, and no other player high on the POY board posted a result large enough to catch Seiver.
Main Event seat, trophy and banner for Seiver
Under the POY's revised rules, only one online event can count toward the ten top POY scores that each player can use. The rule changes were designed to stop the over-awarding of points to players who amassed numerous min-cashes during the series' eight-week run.
Seiver will receive a $10,000 buy-in into the 2025 WSOP Main Event for winning this year's POY honor. He'll also receive a trophy celebrating his achievement and will be honored with a banner in the WSOP's rafters that will be on display in perpetuity during future WSOPs. The three bracelet wins give Seiver seven for his career and will make him a leading candidate for Poker Hall of Fame induction when he reaches age 40 next year.
