Shaun Deeb apparently has more on his mind right now than battling COVID-19 in the hospital. The 2018 WSOP Player of the Year said that David "Viffer" Peat has long owed him thousands of dollars, and "Viffer" is willing to bet him on that claim being untrue.
After spending a few days in the hospital in Mexico while competing in the PokerStars WCOOP series, Deeb was released on Thursday. He's now trying to figure out how he can legally return to the U.S. where he lives given his health status.
But he's also focused on another issue — retrieving money he believes he is owed. "Viffer," whom you may have seen on Poker After Dark years ago, has been known to run into some financial issues, including running up debts to gamblers.
One of those debts is allegedly to Deeb. The poker pro claimed on Twitter that he bought off Peat's old debt to an undisclosed person, but never received the money. Thus, he claims "Viffer" still owes him thousands of dollars. Peat disagrees and is willing to bet on it. The disagreement started with Deeb firing off an unrelated tweet about his health situation.
Deeb then responded, "Would prefer people just pay the debts to me like from you." That sparked a public feud between the poker players. And also what could potentially be a high-stakes prop bet.
"I’ll give you the same offer as before, We both post 50k and find a mediator and if they say I owe you take the 50k if not I get 50, if you don’t want to do that then your just talking shit," Peat wrote.
Pay up, or else
Deeb then claimed that Peat hadn't paid him for seven years and asked why he should now trust him. But "Viffer" wasn't ready to back down. He wants an arbitrator to assess the situation and determine if he truly does owe Deeb money or not. He's also offered to put the prop bet money into an escrow so that Deeb would feel comfortable accepting the wager.
But Deeb appears to have no interest in taking that bet. Chris Moneymaker offered to be the arbitrator but that offer also wasn't accepted.
"Don’t need arbitrators the people involved in the situation can handle it but I know Viffer will never follow through cuz he has always known he’s wrong and just stalling cuz he’s dead broke scum," Deeb wrote.
The origination or details of the supposed debt are unknown. Deeb hasn't mentioned that publicly. But he claims he bought out the debt years ago from another individual. And, he says, "Viffer" has never paid him the money owed.
