Daniel Negreanu’s daily vlogs from the WSOP Paradise festival in The Bahamas are notable for many things: his access to great players, the detailed hand breakdowns he shares, and his observations on the day-to-day realities of life at the table and in the spotlight.
He’s not shy about telling us when he’s played well, when he’s made mistakes, or when the poker gods send him a kick in the teeth and put him on tilt.
The most recent episode - click above to watch now - has a little bit of everything, and reminds us why so many fans around the world tune in for each instalment.
Down almost a million, and the price of tomatoes isn’t helping
The story so far… Kid Poker is down for the series to the tune of over $900K. Not that he’s complaining… until he sees the bill for four tomatoes from room service.
"When you come to The Bahamas, you have to be aware of one thing: everything is crazy expensive," Negreanu says to camera. "I asked room service if they could bring me four tomatoes... how much do you think this cost?"
"What do you think a fair price is? Four tomatoes... what, two bucks would be crazy, right? It's $25! You've got to laugh because, what the f*ck, man?!?"
But even that isn’t enough to send Negreanu askew. No, the recipe for true tilt doesn’t call for tomatoes, but for PLO. On his second bullet in the $50K PLO Championship, and mixing it with the likes of Jeremy Ausmus, Negreanu finds a profitable spot heads-up as a 68% favorite but isn’t able to drag the pot.
“That one stung,” he shares as he bounces out of the $50K PLO, but there’s one question on his mind: “Shall I jump in the Super Main now, or am I too tilted?”
We know where this is going, right?
Spins it up to book a spot in Day 2
Of course, Negreanu opts to play Day 1A of the $26K Super Main Event and is able to turn his 500K starting stack into over 1.5M by the end of the day.
Along the way, he:
- Speaks to a German player who qualified for the $26K Super Main courtesy of a $10 online feeder
- Chats to Alan Keating about his performance in Deadmoney
- Runs into Alex Foxen, still with the fake fur coat and the grin he wore in his victory pose for the $100K Triton Main Event
- Shares a table and a few jokes with Mustapha Kanit and Eric Afriat
There’s also this collector’s item captured on camera from the mouth of Phil Hellmuth: “I could have played better.”
With Negreanu now in possession of a seat in Day 2, will he take some time off to restore his energy levels, top up his tan, and drill down into his beloved fantasy hockey stats?
There’s a one-day PLO event starting tomorrow at noon - just sayin’...
