Two decades ago, Chris Moneymaker won the most prestigious poker tournament in the world, The World Series of Poker Main Event, via an $86 satellite. The rest, as they say, is history. However, the history books are still being written.
Today, a new page reads: Chris Moneymaker's own tour hosts its first-ever Main Event. The Moneymaker Tour Main Event kicks off today in West Palm Beach, Florida at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. The series, curated in part by experienced Tournament Director Tony Burns, has been a resounding success thus far. Now, it culminates in a deep-stacked, player-friendly, five-day Main Event.
The details
There are three starting flights to choose from; Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this week, each starting at 12 pm local time. Day 2 will pick back up on Sunday, May 21st, with the final table played on Wednesday, May 24th.
The $2,500 marquee event features a $500,000 guarantee. Players start with a generous 50,000 starting stack and 60-minute levels. Levels will increase to 90 minutes on Day 3 once they reach 36 players. With unlimited reentry, players may register until the start of Day 2. You can download the full structure via their website here. With satellites running every day, you can get into the Main Event for as little as $286. Check out the full list of events here.
Live streamed every day
The next best thing to being here, you can take part in the action with feature tables streamed every day. Today's stream will begin at 4:00 pm local time. If you're tired of only seeing final table, ICM-heavy, streams, they're bringing you early action from Day 1 all the way through the final table.
You can watch via their YouTube channel and their Twitch channel, both free to the public. Cheer on your favorite players, and see if the one and only Chris Moneymaker makes an appearance himself.
Be a part of history
It's not too late to join in on the historic tour. With starting flights today, tomorrow, and Saturday, there's a seat open at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. It's not far from the beach, too, making it a nice destination for non-poker-playing companions.
How often does one get the chance to be in the mix during the first event of a brand-new tour, especially one by the start of the modern poker boom? We'll be in-house for the entire event to see who enters their name on the next page of the Chris Moneymaker history book.
