PokerOrg’s Sarah Herring is back to bring you the latest news and weirdest stories from this week in poker, all delivered in a handy, bite-sized burst.
Or should that be ‘byte-sized’?
Because if this week’s episode of The PokerOrg Showdown has a theme, it’s about technology and what we’re doing with it.
Even if that sometimes gets, well, a little weird…
From a virtual Phil Hellmuth to actual joy
Who would get an invite to your dream poker game? We suspect many people would put Phil Hellmuth — winner of more WSOP bracelets than anyone, ever — on that list. But now it seems you don’t need to play for big bucks, or employ him as a business consultant, for the chance to sit down and chat with the ‘Poker Brat’.
Or, at least, a version of him.
Yep, Hellmuth has been recreated as a virtual AI chat-bot you can interact with whenever the fancy takes you. (There’s a sentence we didn’t see coming.)
Sarah takes the opportunity to ask the Philbot a few searching questions, and stays in the digital realm for a look at GGPoker’s latest initiative to bring banned players back into the fold, and a quick peek at the state of poker in videogames.
And finally — because as great as the virtual world can be, it still can’t match the real thing — we catch up with one of poker’s good guys as he wins a prize he never expected, and reacts in a decidedly real, very human way.
Who might that be? Watch the video above now to find out.
