WPT commentator continues an active year at the poker tables with a Super Circuit Series win
Tony Dunst’s duties as a commentator for World Poker Tour live events went on hiatus this year, perhaps offering Dunst more playing time at the poker table. Dunst’s recent run of tournament success proves he still belongs in the category of “top-tier poker pro.”
Dunst added his first career World Series of Poker Circuit Ring to his career accomplishments earlier this month.
Dunst took down Event #12: $100,000 Guaranteed NLH Big $500 at the 2020 WSOP Super Circuit Series to win the ring. Dunst topped a field of 509 entries, winning $44,165 in the process.
The WSOP Super Circuit Series offered 18 ring events, playing out on WSOP.com Nov. 27-Dec. 14. The series guaranteed $1 million across all events, with the actual total prize pool smashing that figure and ending up at nearly $3.6 million.
A big year at the table for Dunst
Dunst’s 2020 accomplishments include both a WSOP bracelet and the WSOP Circuit Ring. Dunst has been active all year in the tournament series offered at WSOP.com and rolled up an impressive run of results in the 2020 WSOP Bracelet Events series.
The U.S. side of the WSOP Bracelet Events series ran throughout July on WSOP.com. The festival ran 31 bracelet events, and Dunst came away with nine cashes across the series.
The biggest of those cashes by far came in Event #21: $777 No-Limit Hold’em. Dunst came through with a victory over a field of 1,361 entries, securing a $168,342 payday and a WSOP bracelet in the process.
That win earned Dunst the second WSOP bracelet win of his career. The first came at the 2016 WSOP, with the longtime WPT commentator and fan-favorite winning a $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event for $168,342.
Dunst, a staple on WPT broadcasts since his 2010 debut for the brand, still strikes a figure as an active and talented tournament player. Dunst’s career live earnings stand at more than $3.8 million according to the Hendon Mob database.
His online tournament earnings in events recorded by the PocketFives online poker database total more than $1.8 million.
His 2020 online results follow up on a 2019 run that saw Dunst post some of the best results of his career. Dunst came up just short of another bracelet win at the 2019 WSOP, coming in second in a $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event for $374,886.
That cash marked the third-biggest payday of Dunst’s live tournament career. Another of Dunst’s top five career scores came in 2019 as well, with Dunst finishing second in the Baccarat Crystal WPT Tournament of Champions and bagging $374,886.
The 36-year-old Dunst is playing some of his best poker more than 15 years into his career. When he returns to the live booth for WPT, he’ll do so as an even more decorated player.
