Not everyone has what it takes to play poker, not every poker player has what it takes to coach, and not every coach has what it takes to really get sh*t done. But then, there's only one AJ Rudolph.

In addition to a growing tournament resume, Rudolph is Director of Operations at Jakacoaching, the training company founded by PokerOrg Player Advistory Board member Faraz Jaka. She's also a strong advocate for women in poker, and is currently serving as Vice-President of the Women's Poker Association.

What’s one bit of essential prep you do before a big tournament or cash game session?

"I take notes when I have coaching and study; I always write out a couple of key points I want to work on. I'll pull up my notes on my phone and read those points so they are top of mind. I wish I also had time to meditate or something but it always feels like I’m running."

What piece of strategy advice did you get when you first started playing that you wish you had ignored?

"'You have to get lucky in poker'. Nope. I’ve come to learn you need to find places to make your own luck."

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve seen or done at the poker table?

"Men entering women’s tournaments."

What’s your most memorable hand?

"The first time I got a royal flush!"

What’s your single best piece of advice for poker players?

"This game can make you run a wide range of emotions. Making sure you manage and level-set those emotions is the best skill you can learn. It’s not easy, I had a really tough time with that a tournament recently. But that will benefit you in poker and in life."

If you owned a poker room, who’s the first player you’d want to sign as an ambassador and why?

"Liv Boeree. I know she’s retired from poker, but she’s brilliant: a degree in Physics with Astrophysics; she’s one of the top female poker players of all time; has given a Ted Talk; and was in a metal band! I mean, she’s the whole well-rounded package. I hope to meet her one day."
