Leo Margets has been here before. Sixteen years ago, she enjoyed her first deep run in the $10K WSOP Main Event. That run ended in 27th place and earned her the title of 'Last Woman Standing.'
This year, she's back, and Margets is looking to do more than that. She's already locked up the celebratory title of 'Last Woman Standing' again, but as the field gets smaller, an improvement to her last run is the next step.
'Very grateful to be here'
The moment isn't lost on Margets, especially as she's had over a decade to reflect on her last run.
"I'm very grateful to be here," said Margets. "In our lives, how many times are we going to make Day 7 of the Main Event. I'm just enjoying trying to play every hand the best that I can."
She's done that through six full days to get here, and thus far is showing no signs of slowing down.
"You can be tempted to think, 'What if?' and think too far in advance," she said. "It seems so far, but it's still so close. We still have a long time to go, but I'm just focusing on every hand."
On or off the feature table?
She's back on the feature table at the time of writing. We chatted with her during a break when she was just moving off of the feature table to see how she feels about playing under the lights.
"It's very hot, and I like to play with my hoodie," she explained. "In general, you need to put more energy into figuring out how players adjust to the feature. It's a little extra energy."
She clearly prefers playing away from the feature, but she won't shy away from it.
"I hope I'm back...but in four days."
We hope so, too. How many times do you get to make Day 7 of the Main Event and be the 'Last Woman Standing'? For Margets, the answer is: At least two.
At the time of writing, Margets has 4.9M chips, or 24.5 big blinds in Level 31 with around 45 players left on Day 7.
