When 'Hawk Tuah Girl' aka Haliey Welch was announced for the Celebrity Poker Tour Invitational IV on Saturday night, the first question on everyone's lips was, "Can she play poker?"
We'll confess that we wanted her to be a secret crusher, but that wish evaporated when we saw her picking up her hole cards to check them at chest height.
And, as we feared, when we interviewed her, she confessed she'd never played before. She had Googled the rules ahead of the tournament and thought she knew enough to get by, but she didn't end up troubling the money spots.
She might have won her fame by going viral but she's since won a lot of people over with her personality.
And PokerOrg's Lara Neacy wanted to know if she would ever consider dating a poker player. The news wasn't good.
"Nah, not into him gambling our house money or something," Welch said.
After her first experience at the poker table, does she think she'd make a good player? "No, my face shows everything," Welch replied. But she's lucky, right? Dashed again. "I don't have luck for shit," replied Welch. Given her recent trajectory in life, we'd take issue with this.
After Welch was eliminated, Qiyu 'Nemo' Zhou showed her how things were done, threatening to win her second CPT Invitational. Nemo has already won one (the very first Invitational) and finished seventh in CPT Invitational III. She finished second on Saturday night, beaten by Vegas Matt, who made quad twos on the last hand to scoop the $20,000 first prize.
