Day 16
Last Monday saw the crowning of two more hat tricks in the WCOOP.
Yuri “theNERDguy” Martins, had two WCOOP titles to his name before he bought into the $5,000 buy-in 8-max progressive knock out event. Now he has three. That blue ribbon came with $245,535.01. With $118,124.97 of it coming from stomping out individual foes for their bounties along the way.
His heads up match was against Brunno Botteon, a player who has been having quite a series himself.
The other third-time champ crowned that day was Tobias “Senkel92” Leknes. This was his third title of this series alone. He already had three in the bag from previous years making for six total.
Niklas “Lena900” Astedt almost joined them by winning an event. That would have been three titles in three days. But instead, he busted out in fifth place and passed into obscurity.
Day 17
On Tuesday the final Sunday Slam finished up its final table, giving Brazilian players all three titles this week.
Benny “Rungodlike” Glaser collected another title in the wee hours, taking down the 79-player $2.1k H.O.R.S.E. event.
But the biggest story of the day was Ben “Spraggy” Spragg's razz hands.
He found himself in a four-way razz pot that had been raised every single betting round. On seventh street, his three opponents were still in with the following astonishing hands: (x-x)-7-6-Q-5-(x) (folded to a bet on the river), (x-x)-K-Q-T-8-(x) (all in on 5th street), (4-6)-5-J-Q-A-(K) (called and beat Spragg’s Q-9-low.).
Spragg described it as the worst hand of Razz he’d ever seen.
Day 18
842 players entered event 58-H, a $530 progressive KO event, on Day 18. Only Parker “Tonkaaaa” Talbot left the digital arena. He went to the PokerStars cashier bearing before him a ticket for $51,168.46.
This title has been a long time coming for Talbot. He took down two Stadium events earlier this year. And has been turning up in the money in WCOOP event after WCOOP event. All his chickens finally came home to Park...er.
Day 19
Jussi “calvin7v” Nevanlinna joined the exclusive club of four when he won the $55 rebuy event. Some of his three previous WCOOP titles helped make him WCOOP player of the year last year. Though that's not on the cards for him in 2020. The cash is probably nice for him though.
“Pappe_Ruk” took down the $1k PKO event, playing so aggressively that over half his winnings ($68,096 total) came from bounties ($35,644).
Day 20
The WCOOP takes Fridays off.
Day 21
Saturday brought with it that ozone smell that precedes a storm, as players started girding their loins for the main event on Sunday.
The big news was the $10k high roller event that had boiled its player pool down to the final eight with Mike “goleafsgoeh” Leah, Andrew “ClockWyze” Pantling, Stephen “stevie444” Chidwick, and Joao “Naza114″ Vieira” still in the running.
A few smaller events came and went, barely remarked upon.
Day 22
Another day, another $10 million guaranteed. The Main Event started yesterday and unspooled for 16 blind levels. Late reg remains open until the start of day two, later today.
With a buy in of $5k and just 1,708 entries (roughly 400 of which are rebuys), there is still some overlay in the pot. Whether that will still be the case come 1:10 pm EDT remains to be seen.
Currently, there’s $1.5 million up top at the very least, and more if the guarantee breaks.
Fifteen other tourneys are ongoing, six of which started yesterday. So there’s still a ton of action going on at the WCOOP.
Two of those tournaments are the low and medium main events that also kicked off yesterday.
