The 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise is officially underway down in The Bahamas and, with that, Daniel Negreanu has released the first installment of his 2025 WSOP Paradise vlog series.
It's been a few months since Negreanu last graced the YouTube streets with his daily vlogs, but the wait is now over as he returns to the content creation game for the winter series.
Day 1 in Paradise
In the early goings of the Day 1 episode, Negreanu prepares at home for the multi-week grind of the series – packing, saying goodbye to his dogs Rocky and Apollo, and enjoying the time with his wife, Amanda. Then, the following morning, it's wheels up and off to The Bahamas.
On arrival, Negreanu warns that the series could be a big one. "Oh my god," Negreanu says. "Oh my god, eh? There are unlimited re-entries... $75K... $100K... really fast tournaments. This one's going to put a lot of people's bankrolls to the test, to say the least. It's a big one."
On the walk in to his first event – the $75K PLO – Negreanu clues viewers in to his strategy for the tournament.
"Now, how are we going to approach it?" he asks himself. "Well, we're not going to approach it like a $5 rebuy. $75,000 – that's a lot of money, right? You guys have a piece, we're not going to do anything foolish. However, we will gamble. We will gamble to try to get a big stack."
Negreanu's first table features a murderer's row of PLO experts, including Nacho Barbero, Laszlo Bujtas, Lautero Guerra, and Dylan Weisman. While Negreanu is no slouch in the four-card streets himself, his first bullet doesn't go as planned and he's off to the rebuy cage while late registration remains open to him. In an event of this caliber, there's almost no such thing as a favorable table draw and Negreanu's second bullet exemplifies this as he takes his seat with Jesse Lonis and Alex Foxen – not exactly players you want to encounter.
Luckily, Negreanu manages to bust Lonis when he flops top set against Lonis' top two pair on a board. With all the chips in the middle, Negreanu has a massive advantage and, despite a slight sweat on the turn as Lonis picks up a flush draw, he holds to score the knockout. Unfortunately, Negreanu's second bullet lasts only slightly longer than his first and he returns to the rebuy cage for a third entry.
While an early double provides some hope for a deep run, Negreanu returns to the table after dinner break and loses two key pots to bust out of the tournament for the final time – an expensive introduction to the series as he ends Day 1 in the hole for $225,000.
We're expecting to see him back in the $100K PLO event that starts at 4:00PM on Friday.
