Here’s a question we ask ourselves every day at PokerOrg: what does the poker community think? We talk to players every day and do our best to reflect your voices and as frequently as possible give your voices prominence in our coverage. We collect and report poker news all day long, but it’s much more fun when we’re hearing what you think about everything happening in the poker world.

Over the past few months, you’ve seen lots of changes here at PokerOrg, and now we have one that we feel is vital to how we tell poker’s ever-changing global stories while reflecting the authentic voices of players.

We’re unveiling a feature on our website that allows you to comment directly on our articles and stories. We’ve all been in the game a long time, and we know that most of our experience has been built on the insights, opinions, and experiences we’ve shared with fellow players. That’s why your opinions are invaluable to us, and we’re really happy to offer a platform where you can contribute to the dialogue in everything we publish.

Why commenting matters

We know the poker community is passionate about poker and not afraid to debate anything. Those debates all-too-frequently devolve on social media, and frankly, often turn into scrums and battle royales that are less fun to fight than they are to watch. There was a time when poker folks actually had good and spirited discussions without them turning into a late night Twitter Space that someone has to apologize for the next day.

A civil place in an increasingly bitter world

While we are eager to hear your thoughts, it is critical that our commenting section remains a place for respectful and constructive dialogue. We are committed to creating a positive environment where everyone feels comfortable participating. Here are a few pointers to help maintain this standard:

  • Be cool: Approach every discussion with kindness and respect. Ad hominem attacks, insults, and abusive language have no place here. Remember, we all share a common love for poker, and we’d expect you to act like you would if you were sitting at the table with people in real life. (Don’t make us call the floor!)

  • Right place, right time: There is a time and place for all topics under the sun. Make sure your comments are relevant to the article or discussion.

  • Be kind: Trolling is for boomers who once thought it was cool to be mean. Commenting here is for people who can be smart and funny without being terrible. It wasn’t really funny to be a troll a decade ago, and today…it’s just played.

With all of that in mind, we have a set of guidelines you’ll want to follow when commenting here.

Our moderation team will be actively monitoring the comments to uphold these guidelines. We’re not going to stop anyone from a good battle of wits or discussion, but we’re going to keep the comments civil. If you want to throw hands and build an ego out of tweet-bricks, you know where to go.
