Daniel Negreanu might be playing Day 3 of the Main Event today, and he might be feeling under the weather — as revealed by a trip to the doctors in his latest vlog — but he wasn’t taking his foot off the gas on his day off on Monday.
Negreanu is still in the mix for 2025 Player of the Year and hopped into the $1,000 NLH 6-Max Championship online.
In his own words, he was only interested in first place for a big boost to his Player of the Year points (your single best online cash counts). He didn’t end up winning, but he did come incredibly close, as revealed in a series of vlog updates.
$1K 6-Max Championship — in the money
“It’s a little after 10pm now, we’re in the money, 100 left, and we have 20 big blinds,” Negreanu said. “We haven’t moved at all, exactly what the body wants to do — nada. Let’s try and win this thing.”
Fast forward two hours, and Negreanu was still in and hurtling towards the final table.
“It’s midnight. Everyone else wins a worldwide web bracelet, why can’t I?” he asked. “We’re sitting 10 of 26. I don’t know how long this is going to take. We’ve got the Main Event tomorrow, but we’re here now. A win here and Player of the Year... we’re back in the game. Nothing but a win. A win and only a win. That’s what we’re going to play for.”
Then Negreanu took a hit. He raised with and got a call from the big blind.
The flop was and the big blind check-called a bet from Negreanu. The same thing happened on the
turn.
Negreanu made two pair on the river and bet two-thirds pot. The big blind called with
for a bigger two pair.
$1K 6-Max Championship — final table
Negreanu rallied and towards 2am was close to the final table.
“Things are starting to get exciting now,” he said. “There’s only nine people left for a bracelet, laying in bed, 5 of 9 with 28 big blinds. Everyone's stalling, as there’s a pay jump at 8, but such is life. But wow! You know, what the heck? Might as well just win one.”
Negreanu hit the final table in fourth with six left. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be, and he ended up busting in 3rd for $82,440.
Negreanu's exit hand came after he defended his big blind with .
He hit top pair on the flop and moved all-in over a bet from the small blind, who flipped tens.
Negreanu turned two pair but got counterfeited on the river with the board running out .
"It was a fun ride," he said. "We were very, very close to winning a bracelet. It got really shallow at the end, as these things do.
“It’s 3am and we’ve got to play at noon," he continued. "We’re going to do our best, we’re going to power through because this is the Main Event. There are no more breaks, we go, go, go.
“So what do we have this year? A second, a third, a fourth, seventh, eighth, ninth, eleventh — and a bunch of other stuff. Pretty good runs. That was fun. Now it’s time to get some sleep.”
Negreanu is currently playing Day 3 of the Main Event and started the day with a stack of 71,000.
