Fourteen days of non-stop poker action and a whopping $4,200,000+ in guaranteed prize money awaits players heading to WPT Montreal next month, with at least two seven-figure prizes on the line.
The Playground Poker Club at Kahnawake will once again welcome the World Poker Tour to its Montreal-based cardroom, with the festival running from May 9-22.
Headlining the fortnight of poker fun and games are the WPT500 Montreal Championship, WPT Prime Montreal Championship, and WPT Montreal Championship events.
WPT Montreal Championship
Let’s start at the end and take a look at the main event, the $2,000,000 GTD WPT Montreal Championship.
With a $3,500 buy-in, there are three Day 1 starting flights on the schedule, running May 16-18, followed by two more days of play to whittle the field down to a final table.
Last time out, back in the pre-pandemic days of 2019, Canada’s Geoff Hum fought off serious opposition to win the $380,546 top prize.
This time around, those who run deep enough will have a day off before meeting up on May 22 for a televised final table.
WPT Prime Montreal Championship
The same goes for the $1,150 buy-in WPT Prime Montreal Championship, which runs May 12-17 and boasts a $1,000,000 guarantee. Much like its bigger brother, the WPT Prime Championship will see its final table televised and livestreamed on the WPT YouTube and Twitch channels.
The third 'biggie' on the schedule is the $590 buy-in WPT500 Montreal Championship event, running from May 9-13 and boasting, as the name suggests, a $500,000 guarantee.
Live satellites and Meet-Up Game
As usual, the WPT schedule offers multiple options and chances to bag seats on the cheap. There are $180 WPT Prime Championship Milestone satellites and $400 buy-in satellites to the WPT Championship itself running throughout the series.
For those who love their celebs and, let’s say, the more enjoyable side to poker festivals, tag along as WPT Ambassadors Brad Owen, Matt Savage, Tony Dunst, and Vince Van Patten will play host to a Meet-Up Game.
Tuesday, May 14 at midday is shuffle-up-and-deal time, with $1/$3 and $2/$5 games on offer, but the crowds often gather long before then for a chance to meet their heroes before the fun begins.
There's plenty of action for everyone at WPT Montreal, whatever your bankroll, and you can check out the full schedule here.
