The World Poker Tour (WPT) has announced the dates of its 2025 WPT World Championship, which will take place at Wynn Las Vegas in December and close out Season 23.

The festival, which will include the WPT Prime Championship, runs from December 2 to 22. The $10,400 WPT World Championship plays out December 13 to 21, with three starting flights from December 13.

The tournament will play down to the final six on December 19, and the remaining players will get a day off to prep for the huge final table on December 21.

The WPT Prime Championship has four starting flights (December 7 to 10), with Day 2 playing out December 11. The field will play down to the final six on December 12 and those players will contest the title in a delayed televised final table on December 20.

“The WPT World Championship is a true celebration of poker, and Wynn Las Vegas has proven to be the ultimate stage,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. “This event has become one of the most anticipated events on the global poker calendar and we look forward to welcoming players from all over the world to compete for life-changing sums of money and their chance to make history.”

The full schedule of side events will follow.

'Special announcements' have been promised from WPT in the coming weeks. 'Special announcements' have been promised from WPT in the coming weeks.

Big two face-off again in December

The announcement from WPT means that its World Championship and WSOP Paradise will square off again in December.

That happened for the first time in 2023, when the WPT had a $40 million guarantee on its World Championship. It ended up missing that guarantee by $2.4 million and switched tactics in 2024, when its flagship event didn’t have a guarantee. Instead, the WPT ran a $5 million Invitational freeroll.

There’s been no word yet on what WPT will do this year — if anything — but it has promised “special announcements” in the coming weeks. After an aggressive Gold Rush campaign this summer from ClubWPT Gold that ended up causing chaos at the summer WSOP, we’re expecting something.

The 2025 WSOP Paradise runs December 4-18 with a $25K buy-in Super Main Event that comes with a $60 million guarantee — the largest in poker history.

The WSOP narrowly missed the $50 million guarantee at Paradise last year but has increased it by $10 million this year.

The other events announced so far are largely high roller and super high roller, with tournaments being run in partnership with Triton Poker. The exception is the first event, where free entry is being given to all WSOP Circuit ring winners between July 1 and December 2.
