It was the O.G. of WSOP Circuit events, and now, after a five-year hiatus, the Circuit is finally coming back to Atlantic City! From August 14-25, Harrah’s Atlantic City plays host to the WSOP Circuit for the first time since March 2020.
The history of the Circuit runs through Atlantic City
Back in 2005, at the peak of the Moneymaker boom and with the desire for poker, and specifically the World Series of Poker, at a fever pitch, the WSOP expanded its trademark Las Vegas series to a national tour, featuring ten series throughout the year. The inaugural season began in January 2005 with the very first series at Harrah’s Atlantic City.
The debut of the WSOP Circuit featured seven events, headlined by a $10,000 Main Event that saw 249 entries and was won by Canadian Henry Tran for $780,615. Also at the inaugural Main Event final table were such notables as runner-up Erick Lindgren, Nick Frangos, Chad Brown, Chris Ferguson, and John Esposito.
Atlantic City would be an annual staple of the WSOP Circuit through March 2020, when, sadly, it went from being the first-ever Circuit stop to one of the last events before poker shut down as the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
That series couldn’t reach its conclusion as it was shuttered midway, leaving the 2019 champion, Ryan Eriquezzo, as the last recognized WSOPC Atlantic City Main Event champion. The now six-time WSOP Circuit ring winner won his second Main Event in Atlantic City that year for $124,397.
The WSOPC is resurrected in A.C.
And now, it's back!
The WSOP Circuit has changed a lot since 2005; heck, it’s changed a bunch since 2019 and 2020.
The last time there was a full series in Atlantic City in 2019, 13 events were on the schedule. Now, the Circuit is bringing 18 events to town, with each awarding a prestigious WSOP Circuit ring and a $5,000 package to WSOP Paradise this December in the Bahamas.
The series will feature over $1,000,000 in guarantees, headlined by the $1,700 Main Event, which carries its own $500,000 guarantee.
Circuit staples like the $400 Mini Main Event and $400 Monster Stack will be there, carrying $200,000 and $100,000 guarantees, respectively.
A $300 Ladies and $400 Seniors event are also on the schedule, along with a $600 Bounty, $400 Big O, $300 Turbo, and several other single-day events. The full schedule is available here.
