The winner of the 2014 WSOP Circuit Biloxi main event, Mohammed "Moe" Moeini, was one of four people killed on Wednesday in Biloxi and Gulfport, Mississippi, by a gunman who later took his own life. Jeremy Alesunder Reynolds, the suspected gunman, was found dead later that day in Gulfport, following a standoff with police.
Moeini, 51, was the owner of the Broadway Inn Express, a low-budget hotel just off the Gulf Coast shore, where the shooting broke out. While not all details are known or have been publicly released, Reynolds, 32, is believed to have been involved in a confrontation with Moeini and two of his hotel's employees, Laura Lehman, 61, and Chad Green, 55. Both Lehman and Green also lived at the hotel.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots fired before Reynolds fled the scene. Later, he carjacked a vehicle from and shot a Gulfport public works employee, 52-year-old William Waltman. Waltman died during surgery, while Moeini, Lehman, and Green were all declared dead at the original shooting scene.
Meanwhile, Reynolds fled west into central Gulfport, where he was surrounded by police at a convenience store. After the four-hour standoff, police used tear gas, then entered the store and found Reynolds deceased as well, having presumably taken his own life.
Moeini earned over $500,000 in poker tournament career
Moeini, a well-known player in the Biloxi poker scene, topped a 301-entry field when he won the WSOPC Biloxi main event title in September of 2014. His $106,101 winner's payday was the largest tourney cash of his career, and he earned over $528,000 in recorded tourney cashes from 2010 until earlier this year.
The vast majority of Moeini's poker cashes came at Mississippi Gulf Coast venues, though he also logged a handful of scores during poker trips to Las Vegas over the years. His seven recorded wins included WPT and Gulf Coast Poker Championship preliminary events, along
with a Venetian Deepstack Championship event win in 2019.
