It's been the Alan Keating versus Lex Veldhuis show thus far on the back half of PokerStars' The Big Game On Tour Season 2. The on-felt rivalry between the two stretches back to the first season of the show and neither player has shown any sign of backing down now that they've reignited the chip-swinging battle.
In the latest episode, Chance Kornuth took a seat at the table after waiting in the wings for the demise of Alexander 'Wolfgang' Seibt. With another super-pro in the mix, Loose Cannon Luke Moy's chances of walking away with a profit grew slightly worse. While Kornuth wasted no time in involving himself in the action, the ongoing feud between Keating and Veldhuis once again dominated the through-line of the latest episode – including a clash that left the latter wondering if he played the hand right.
You can check out the hand in the post below.
Chance Kornuth: 'Who's gonna say it?'
Veldhuis kicked off the action with a raise to $1,200 with before Keating, next to act, instantly three-bet to $4,000 with
. When the action folded back around to him, Veldhuis made the call to see the
flop and checked to Keating. With $9,000 in the middle, Keating fired a $5,000 continuation bet with his flopped trips and Veldhuis called.
The turn changed nothing for either player and Veldhuis' odds of winning the hand dropped to just 3% as he needed to find the case ten on the river. Keating loaded up another bet, $15,000, when checked to and after a few seconds of consideration Veldhuis matched the wager. With only one card in the deck to save him, Veldhuis watched on as the dealer rolled over the
, improving him to a full house at the last gasp.
In the face of a third check from his opponent, Keating had nothing but value on his mind as he dialed up a sizable wager of $41,000 – nearly a pot-sized bet. As Keating's chips hit the felt, Veldhuis flicked a single disc across the betting line for a snap call.
"Ace," Keating announced.
"Boat," countered Veldhuis.
With the cards on their backs, the players around the table exchanged a few inquisitive glances as they evaluated Veldhuis' decision to only call the bet rather than put in a raise.
"Who's gonna say it?" Kornuth asked.
"I'm not saying it," Koon replied.
"You can never be too careful," Kornuth joked.
Veldhuis didn't respond to the needles – he simply flashed a brief smile at Kornuth as he stacked up the $131,000 pot. When the episode aired, Veldhuis took to social media to offer his thoughts on the hand and explain the decision to just call on the river with a full house – and his reasoning, opponent-specific as it may be, is understandable.
