Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos, known on the felt as ‘El Conquistador’, is a Spanish professional poker player who regularly competes at the highest level of the game.

Born July 1, 1994 in Madrid, Spain, Mateos developed an early interest in strategic games – an interest which, unsurprisingly, led him to poker. In January of 2013, about six months after his 18th birthday, Mateos announced himself on the scene with a victory in the Estrellas Poker Tour Main Event in Madrid for $137,245.

The Spaniard’s early success didn’t end there.

Later that same year, Mateos – now 19 – triumphed over the field in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe Main Event, taking home the $1,351,661 first-place prize and his first WSOP bracelet. Then, just two years later in 2015, Mateos further cemented his standing as a rising star when he won the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final for $1,214,161. Mateos’ EPT victory carried an added historical significance as he became the first Spanish champion in the tour’s storied history.

By the age of 22, Mateos added two more WSOP bracelets to his resume – one in the 2016 WSOP $1,500 Summer Solstice NLH and a second in the 2017 WSOP $10,000 NLH Heads-Up Championship – to become the youngest player in poker history to accumulate three bracelets.

Mateos notched his fourth bracelet with a victory in the 2021 WSOP $250,000 Super High Roller NLH for $3,265,362 and a fifth in 2025 when he triumphed in the $3,200 High Roller NLH (WSOP Online).

‘El Conquistador’ has also plied his trade on the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series to great effect – racking up two titles and more than $17M in tour earnings.

In addition to his skills on the live felt, Mateos is feared in the online arena. On PokerStars, he plays under the screenname ‘Amadi_017’ and has won several Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) titles.

Currently, Mateos serves as a sponsored ambassador for European poker operator Winamax.
