Jason Koon

Jason Koon, born August 14, 1985, spent his formative childhood years in Weston, West Virginia. From humble beginnings, he rose to become one of the most respected and successful poker players in the game's history. As a child, Koon's family life was fractured by the absence of his father from age eight onwards. In an effort to escape his surroundings, he channeled his efforts into athletics and excelled as a track and field competitor. Koon was the first member of his family to attend college, earning a degree in Business Administration and Finance from West Virginia Wesleyan College.

While competing in track and field events at the collegiate level, Koon sustained an injury that left him sidelined – and that's where poker entered his life. After learning the basics from a college friend, he quickly came to the realization that he had a natural aptitude for the strategic and mathematical aspects of the game.

In 2006, Koon began grinding online on PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker under the monikers 'JAKoon1985' and 'NovaSky' respectively.

In 2008, Koon brought his talents to the live poker arena. The following year, he notched his first cashes at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas – and from there, it was off to the races as he climbed the stakes all the way to the highest level.

Nearly two decades and more than $70M in career earnings later, Koon is widely-recognized as one of the most capable players and regularly competes at the highest level. On the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series, Koon has established himself as the endboss of all endbossess – no player has come close to matching his success when it comes to overall number of titles won on the tour. The West Virginian has also proven himself at the World Series of Poker – winning his first bracelet in Event #32: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller 8-Handed in 2025.

Koon currently represents PokerStars as a TeamPro Ambassador.
