The two poker fixtures go heads-up at a WSOP PLO event
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Series is running smoothly, and another gold bracelet has been awarded. None of those bracelets, however, were for pro players Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu, who are being spotted in many WSOP online events as they fight to add another piece of poker jewelry to their collection. So far, even though they both have been cashing out from most of the events they have played, first place just hasn't happened for them. At least during the $500 Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) event, Negreanu had the pleasure of sending Hellmuth to the rails in 95th place.
The race for a gold bracelet was full-on on Monday evening, moreover after both Negreanu and Hellmuth were seated at the same six-handed table. At that moment, there were less than 100 players remaining. The last hand that sent Hellmuth home involved a lot of good luck for Negreanu. He raised under the gun and called a short-stack shove from Hellmuth who was seated to his immediate left. Negreanu had 8, 6, 4, 5 and was clearly behind Hellmuth's K, K, Q, 10. Even when the flop was dealt, the 7, A, J was not a major threat to Hellmuth; however, the 4 on the turn on and the 3 on the river gave Negreanu a nut straight to defeat the Poker Brat, who cashed out $921.
For Negreanu, however, the taste of him busting Hellmuth was not as good as it could have been if had taken place at a live tournament. "Busting @phil_hellmuth online isn’t nearly as fun without the tirade," wrote Negreanu on his Twitter account, as he was sad to miss a Hellmuth's blow-up in person. Negreanu ended up being busted right before the final table, finishing in 11th place for $5,913.
