The Asian Poker Tour (APT) has announced the first tour stop for 2024, with a 12-day tournament series in Taipei due to begin February 28.

A full schedule of events is still to come, but a $2 million (TWD 65 million) guarantee has already been confirmed for the APT Taipei Main Event. Following on the heels of a year in which the APT set a number of records, this marks the largest ever guaranteed prize pool for an APT event.

The festival, which is being organised in association with the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Club (CTP), runs February 28 to March 10 and will be held at two venues. Asia’s largest poker room, the CTP Asia Poker Arena, will host events alongside the Chinese Mahjong League (CML). The two sites are only 1.7km apart in central Taipei.

Player funds from Hanoi Billions now fully distributed

In separate news, the APT has also confirmed that all players have been made whole after the unexpected cancellation of the Hanoi Billions series last month.

The series came to an abrupt halt on its penultimate day, with some events still to finish. An official reason for the series’ termination has not been announced, although the APT has stated that steps have been taken to ensure that 'future events will run without incident'.

Before the Hanoi Billions series came to an end it had already set new records for participation and prize money. The APT, and all players heading to Taipei in February, will be hoping those records continue to fall.
