The 2021 WSOP Event #57 $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship drew only 90 players, generating a total prize pool of $839,350. As is always the case with these high buy-in specialty tournaments, the field was loaded with established poker professionals and World Series of Poker bracelet winners. Brian Yoon was one of those bracelet winners, with three on his resume before this event. He now has four after securing the victory in this event to earn his first bracelet since 2017 and the tournament’s top cash prize of $240,341.
Yoon’s first three bracelets all came in No-Limit Hold’em events. He took down the $1,111 Little One for the One Drop tournament for $663,727 in 2013. He also won the $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed event in 2014 for $633,341, and the $1,500 MONSTER STACK event in 2017 for $1,094,349. The Southern California native has earned over $5 million in tournament winnings according to his Hendon Mob profile. That includes 52 cashes for over $3.4 million in WSOP events.
Yoon survived an epic three-handed battle en route to victory
A slew of high profile eliminations at the end of Sunday’s Day 2 paved the way for the unofficial final table of eight players that would return on Monday. Five-time bracelet winner Shaun Deeb (13th place, $16,552), four-time bracelet winner Mike Matusow (14th place, $16,552), two-time winner Nathan Gamble (10th place, $20,057), one-time winner Daniel Zack (12th place, $20,057), Michael Trivett (11th place, $20,057) and Dan Smith (9th place, $24,910) all made the money before being eliminated ahead of the final table.
By the end of Day 2, Danny Wong had built up a commanding chip lead of 1,755,000 chips. Brian Yoon was in second place with 1,170,000 chips, and Wil Wilkinson sat in third with 945,000 chips. There was a clear drop from the top three down to Don Nguyen at 565,000 and Jordan Siegel (300,000), Joao Vieira (290,000), Brandon Shack-Harris (275,000) and Mike Thorpe (110,000).
It came as no surprise that on Day 3, Wong, Yoon and Wilkinson were the last three players left standing. Their three-handed battle had plenty of ups and downs across over six hours of play before Wilkinson was finally eliminated in third place.
Danny Wong entered heads-up play with a 3,050,000 chip advantage over Brian Yoon’s 2,350,000. After such a long stint of three-handed action, spectators of the event thought they’d be in for a long heads-up battle as well. Instead, heads up action tilted heavily in Yoon’s favor, and in less than two hours he was able to seal the win.
