Huge week for the $500/$1,000 nosebleeds on GGPoker

The online high-stakes cash game scene fell eerily quiet last week. The whales, sharks, and whale sharks went swimming in the Mediterranean where Cyprus was playing host to overlapping Super High Roller Bowl and Triton High Roller tourneys.

However, the action in Cyprus is coming to a close and the high rollers are trickling back online.

Today, there were enough players with at least $40k going spare in their GGPoker account balance to get a $500/$1,000 session going. The buy-ins at these stakes are between $40k and $200k. Most players were bought in for six figures.

High-stakes regulars "atlasatlas" and Andras Nemeth made up the backbone of the game. Atlasatlas in particular sat for four hours. They bookended the main game, playing heads-up before most players joined the game and after most of them had left.

As well as atlasatlas and Nemeth, the table saw action from several other high stakes pros. These included Timofey Kuznetsov, Stanislau Melhui, Ronny Kaiser, Linus Loeliger, and Robert Flink.

For several hours, there was never less than $400k on the table.

Heads up with the best

This evening, Conor Beresford and Henri Puustinen have been trading blows heads up at the $500/$1,000 tables on GGPoker. Beresford has been playing a lot of high stakes nosebleeds this week.

Beresford is a British pro with $1.3 million in live tournament cashes. According to his GGPoker flag, he is currently situated in Thailand. Online gambling is illegal in Thailand, but the rules are inconsistently enforced.

His opponent Puustinen has only a few live tournament cashes. These include a third-place finish in the 2021 WSOP's $25,000 Heads Up Championship.

Two days ago, Artur Martirosian and Wiktor Malinowski were Beresford's heads-up opponents.

While playing at these stakes on GGPoker last year, Malinowski — among his many other poker achievements — set the world record for the largest online NLH hand. Twice.

The $250,000 SHRB Main Event is coming to a close in Cyprus tomorrow. That will wrap up both of the ongoing Cyprus high roller series. As a result, there is good reason to hope for more high-stakes action to come. We just have to wait for the Cypriot cheques to cash and that money to move online again.
