The poker pro walks away after several days of action half-a-million dollars richer
After 13 flights and a total prize pool of $3,554,000, the WPTDeepstacks Online Main Event concluded with the first place taking home $557,000. Jareth East celebrates his biggest tournament poker score in his career after surviving the first main online event from the World Poker Tour (WPT). The original guaranteed prize pool was $3 million, but it was crushed after 3,554 entrants were registered over the course of several starting flights the event offered.
The online tournament started its initial flights on May 18 and the final day of this huge event was May 27. The buy-in was set at $1,000 plus a $50 fee. By the end of Day 2, those 3,554 entries were reduced to only 18. The final day of the competition welcomed East with his 5,641,535 chips that placed him in the ninth place when the tournament started its final day. Two other British players in the event were Ludovic Geilich and Phil Mighall, also fighting for the top prize.
The first one to leave was Geilich, whose plan didn't go as expected. He crashed early in the event and left in 12th place with a $27,259 prize. Mighall, on the other hand, started second in chips at the beginning of the day, but he slowed down his game when there were only five players left. He collected $116,215 in fifth place to be the first player cashing out a six-figure prize.
The final heads-up was between East and Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet and, despite the large difference of $164,941 in prize money, no deal was struck between the two last men standing. East took the crown after dealing with Van Fleet, who once won the MILLIONS online event. Van Fleet took home the second-place prize of $392,717.
