Veldhuis goes deep in the Spring Championship Main Event, but his streaming of the action was bigger
The fact that he didn't make it to the final table did not change the Twitch poker streaming record Lex Veldhuis set while covering his participation at the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event. The professional poker player finished in 15th place and took home $62,620 at the prominent $10,300 buy-in Main Event. However, more notable is the fact that, this past Tuesday, Veldhuis set a poker streaming record on Twitch with 58,599 viewers at once.
According to his own data, Veldhuis said that his previous record was around 36,000 viewers at once; today's SCOOP run set a new record in Twitch's poker stream in history. To put things in perspective, Phil Galfond's challenge against "VeniVidi1993" reported just over 23,000 viewers at its highest peak. And when that event happened a few months ago, everyone was talking about how many people were following the competition, yet Veldhuis stream reported nearly three times as many viewers on Tuesday.
After Veldhuis was busted from the tournament, he continued watching the action at the final table while he was still livestreaming. Even during this time, his channel reported around 10,000 viewers still connected that afternoon. Even if he was busted from this tournament, along the way, he did the same with some talented players, including Ben “Spraggy” Spragg, another popular poker streamer.
Veldhuis busted Spraggy and he finished in30th place. He had an impressive run and one of the largest wins on the stream, but ended his participation in the tournament when he was trying to recover his short stack and went all-in with A-7 off-suit in middle position and came up short.
