Spring Championship of Online Poker season officially ends with the completion of final two U.S. circuits
Just about everyone located in a country with access to legal online poker got a shot at playing in the PokerStars SCOOP this year.
The Spring Championship of Online Poker represents one of poker’s signature online series, and the long-running PokerStars tournament festival played out in several iterations around the world. Most of the world’s poker players got their chance at SCOOP glory on the PokerStars main client, which ran its version of the series throughout April.
A Pennsylvania-only edition of the series ran at PokerStars PA from April 17 through May 3, with the PASCOOP offering $2 million in guarantees. The Main Event for the PASCOOP exceeded the $200,000 guarantee by a sizeable margin, with the final prize money ending up at $284,200.
The final two SCOOP series of 2021 played out on PokerStars MI and PokerStars PA in May. The MISCOOP and NJSCOOP ran on identical dates, with both series offered May 8-24.
The end of the 2021 SCOOP season saw both the MISCOOP and NJSCOOP Main Event finish up Monday. Here’s a look at how both of those tournaments unfolded:
‘Stozypokes’ takes down MISCOOP Main Event for a $41,074 payday
PokerStars Michigan offered the bigger of the two remaining SCOOP Main Events, at least in terms of guaranteed prize money. The officially-titled Event #36-H: $300 NLHE Main Event, guaranteed $200,000 to cap off the MISCOOP festival.
Michigan’s regulated online poker market continues to find success. Since launching on Jan. 29, 2021, PokerStars Michigan has already offered both a MICOOP and a MISCOOP to its newest market.
The Main Event for both of those series surpassed the guarantee. The MISCOOP Main Event drew 871 entries, with the final prize pool finishing at $243,880.
Player ‘Stozypokes’ came away with the winner’s share of that prize money, taking the MISCOOP Main Event title for a $41,074 payday. Other top finishers included ‘aardvark555’ (2nd - $29,344), ‘healybuck2021’ (3rd – 20,964), and ‘Polarithm’ (4th - $14,977).
The MISCOOP ran fewer total events than the NJSCOOP, but the guarantees for the Main Event and the overall series were bigger in the PokerStars Michigan series. The MISCOOP offered 120 total tournaments, with a combined $2 million in guarantees.
‘TrashNinja00’ wins the NJSCOOP Main Event for $19,938
The NJSCOOP Main Event and series as a whole utilized a bit of a less ambitious approach versus its Michigan counterpart. The NJSCOOP Main Event (Event #51-M: NLHE 8-Max Main Event) also offered a $300 buy-in, but the guarantee promised $100,000 in prize money.
A total of 389 players turned out for the NJSCOOP Main Event, with the final prize pool ending up at $109,480. The tournament championship went to ‘TrashNinja00’ for a $19,938 payout.
Other top finishers in the NJSCOOP Main Event included Steven ‘FadeOrHoldz’ Madara* (2nd – $14,427), Sridhar ‘sri100k’ Sangannagari (3rd - $10,440), and ‘RunninItUp98’ (4th - $7,555).
The NJSCOOP ran 163 tournaments overall, but generally offered more events at smaller buy-ins when compared to the MISCOOP series. The festival guaranteed $1.2 million across all events.
