The Brazilian player takes home more than $500,000 as the big winner
The Irish Poker Open has been running for 40 years now, but, for the first time, it was held online to avoid any postponement or canceling due to safety concerns regarding the coronavirus global pandemic. A new edition of this series kept the usual $1,097,030 guarantee for its $1,207 buy-in no-limit Hold'em main tournament. A total of 2,945 were drawn to the event, which allowed the final prize pool to triple. The prize pool money for the winner went all the way to Brazil as Pablo Silva emerged victorious and received $506,937 for the first place.
This has been quite an impressive year for Silva and this is not even his biggest win of the year. He won the $5,000,000 guaranteed $10,300 buy-in Main Event Millions South America back in February where he collected $1,000,000. His major wins this year has earned him 1,800 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points, which has now launched him into an excellent position to fight in the 2020 POY race currently in the position number twelve.
This 2020 Irish Poker Open Main Event paid prizes to the first 408 entries and the tournament was played with the player's actual names instead of using nicknames. Jeff Gross, Davidi Kitai, Sam Grafton and Kristen Bicknell were other names who made it into the money and get a portion of the total prize pool. Poker pro player Andras Nemeth got the runner-up position, taking home $50,077, and the third place was Sihao Zhang, who wasn’t able to capitalize on the chip lead he had heading into the final day of the event.
