$1 million guaranteed Main Event highlights online series

This year’s World Cup of Cards is heading to the online streets, with a $1 million guaranteed Main Event awaiting players at partypoker this month.

Partypoker announced Tuesday that the 2021 World Cup of Cards will commence on its international platform June 11-30. Normally held as a live tournament festival at the Playground Poker Club in the Montreal, Quebec area, the 2021 edition of the World Cup of Cards goes online this summer. That puts it later in the year than its usual January/February start date.

The 2020 World Cup of Cards took place in January and February of last year in its familiar live format at the Playground Poker Club. The series ran as one of the final live events to play to its completion in 2020, before COVID-19 considerations shut down live poker events around the world.

A total of 16 months have passed since the 2020 World Cup of Cards, but the series returns in online format on partypoker this month. Partypoker hasn’t released the full schedule for the series as of yet, but we do know a few key details.

Partypoker made the announcement about the 2021 series in a Tuesday tweet:

“Don't miss out on the World Cup of Cards! It is running on @partypoker from 11th- 30th June and includes a $1m GTD Main Event starting on 20th June. It has a $1100 buy in but we have centrolls running now into phases,” read the partypoker tweet.

The last of the three Day 1 phases begins just hours before Day 2 begins on June 28. Day 2 and Day 3 action trims the field to the final table, which reconvenes on Wednesday, June 30.

Partypoker announced that the rest of the 2021 World Cup of Cards schedule should be revealed soon. The live version of the series generally offers multiple poker variants and tournament structures across the festival.

Partypoker players can likely expect plenty of No-Limit Hold’em and Pot-Limit Omaha on the schedule, along with tournament formats like progressive knockout, shootout, short deck, and Crazy Pineapple.
