Venetian Deepstack 2022 High Roller Event #2: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em went to Punnat Punsri, so did Event #1.
Punsri is on a roll with two six-figure firsts this month. Last month he finished third, fourth, and fifth-place finish in $10k events at the WPT Five Diamond series.
The Venetian High Roller event attracted 37 entries by the time late registration closed at the dinner break. That put $370,000 in the pot, divvied up between the top six finishers. Min-cash, in sixth, was $18,500 with $133,200 up top for first. This was a small increase from yesterday's $10k which attracted 34 entries.
Players started the one-day event with 100,000 in chips and blinds at 500/1,000 with a 1,000 chip ante. With blind levels taking just 40 minutes a pop, the rate of play was pretty fast with over half the players busting before registration closed.
Two times table
The small field was a roll call of high-stakes regulars like Jim Collopy, Erik Seidel, Sam Soverel, and Nick Schulman. Masashi Oya was hot off his win at the MSPT Venetian last week. He took a shot in this higher-stakes tourney and managed a deep run. Challenging him were yesterday's champ, Punnat Punsri and last year's player of the year, Ali Imsirovic.
Oya and Punsri were the chip leaders going into a final table, easily the two least experienced players in a lineup with Chris Brewer, Dylan Linde, Justin Saliba, Andrew Lichtenberger, John Flynt, Barry Hutter, and Imsirovic. Despite this inexperience, Oya took third and Punsri took the lot.
In the end, it came down to Brewer and Punsri heads up.
Brewer overbet all-in on the river with the board showing Q♠5♠2♣9♠2♦️ and Punsri called. Brewer rolled over the K♠6♣ for total air. Punsri showed the J♠8♠ for a spade-flush. Game over.
Brewer won $88,800 for second place.
"Punnat Punsri does it again!" tweeted PokerGO news. "He's now won the first two events of the 2022 @PokerGO Tour season."
