Jans 'Graftekkel' Arends wins Event 5 for 921,178 after three-way ICM chop
The prize pools keep getting bigger as Triton Vietnam continues on here at the beautiful KHOS Hoiana resort. After two full days of play, three players reached an ICM deal to lock in payouts in Event 5: 30k NLH 8-Handed. They left 90,000 and the Triton trophy up top to play for.
After play was over, it was Jans Arends who won the largest portion of the prize pool and secured his first Triton victory. Arends takes home 921,178 and the trophy for his efforts.
From the Netherlands, this is Arends first time at a Triton stop. It's been a great introduction to the prestigious series for him thus far. He's played three events here and already scored a second-place finish just a few days ago in Event 2: 15k NLH 8-Handed for 406,000. It's not been a bad week for the Dutchman, and now he has a trophy to go with his seven-digit earnings.
The other recipients of the ICM chop were Kiat Lee (851,932) and Jonathan Jaffe (766,890).
Large fields continue
There were 171 runners in this event, continuing the near-record-breaking turnouts for Triton events here in Vietnam. The total prize pool amounted to 5,130,000.
Of that number, 23 people made the money. Players like Linus Loeliger (59,500), Nick Petrangelo (59,500), Adrian Mateos (64,600), and Erik Seidel (71,800) all snuck their way into the money.
A fun final table
The final table was a fun and stacked one. It was Oscar Brodkin who set the tone for some early shenanigans when he three-bet king-six suited and showed the table after getting folds all around. He met his eventual demise in seventh place for 203,000 after triple barreling with king high against a flopped two pair of Jonathan Jaffe.
American Brian Kim came into the final table as the chip leader. This was his second cash of the series. With a third-place finish already in hand, he placed fourth for 441,000. He lost a big flip with Kiat Lee late that left him with only a few bigs before exiting shortly before the deal was made between the final three.
Daniel Dvoress looked to be the first to exit the final table after losing a pot with his dominated ace left him with one big blind. But, before he could get that last blind in, a massive three-way hand saw him ladder an extra spot.
Kayhan Mokri moved all in with pocket kings before finding the ace-king of Jonathan Jaffe. Jaffe spiked two aces on the flop to leave Mokri without a way to win the hand. Mokri left with 119,000 while Dvoress and his one big laddered up to eighth place for 149,000.
Seth Davies was poised to take the chip lead when he played a large pot with Jonathan Jaffe with five left in the field. He played for it all with pocket jacks against the king-queen suited of Jaffe who drilled a queen on the turn to eliminate Davies in fifth for 353,700. Davies is on an epic heater here in Vietnam as he's made three final tables in three events for over 800,000 total thus far, but still seeking his first title.
