The massive tournament promises to be a huge success with an impressive turnout
The latest online poker action presented by the World Poker Tour (WPT) has officially launch with a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million in the form of the WPT Online Series Championship. The first day of the series started to warm up with 808 entries of $3,200 buy-in each, which means that almost half of the GTD prize pool is there. This is a great result for the organization, which is making an entry into the online poker world amid the coronavirus pandemic that has all live poker action halted.
By the end of the first day, the leader was Dutch player Abdelhakim Zoufri, who finished the day with a great stack of 791,877 chips. He has an already impressive poker career with over a million dollars collected from tournament winnings, and he is now seeking the very first title as the ultimate WPT Online Series Champion. He is no strange to winning, as he was crowned champion of the 2016 Master Classics of Poker and the 2018 Master Classics of Poker High Roller. However, he still has a field of 141 survivors that are moving to the second day, who he won't take for granted.
Fighting for the first place, Zoufri has some talented players right behind him like Canadian Kevin Macdonald, who is stepping on his heels with a stack of 668,081 chips. Third place finds Julio Ribeiro, who accumulated 590,228 in poker chips. The main event will run for one more week, with the final day being on Wednesday 20, 2020.
