The virtual games are proving to be a huge success with a large poker community
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been running its Online Series for the past seven days with great success for both players and the organizers. So far, a total of five bracelet events have been played and altogether gathered almost $4 million for the prize pool. Each of the first events played at WSOP.com attracted over 800 unique players, despite the fact that none of these tournaments came with guaranteed prizes.
The first event took place on July 1 and it drew 1195 unique players with 520 rebuys for a total prize pool of $771,750.
Event #2, a $1000 Deepstack played this past Thursday, reached a total prize pool of $873,050, which has been the biggest one so far. Friday had its third bracelet event in a $400 buy-in tournament, which attracted the biggest crowd with a total of 2091 entries and a $752,760 prize pool. This latest event was won by "Pokerguru740," who is an ambassador for the US-focused poker site Americas Cardroom.
This is the first year in which the WSOP runs mostly online due to the effect of the coronavirus pandemic. However, the organizers still hope for some of the events to be played live this next fall. This series includes poker action in and out of the US, with a total of 85 bracelets to be awarded to the winners both in the US-only events and those open to the rest of the world. This series is getting increased attention from the poker community, not only because some pro players have been streaming their action in online platforms, but also platforms like PokerGO, WSOP’s own site, and WSOP’s Twitch channel are doing it, too.
