Event #41 of the 2021 WSOP is the $2,500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em tournament. This three-day event started on October 21 with 40-minute blind levels on Day 1 and 60-minute blind levels on Day 2 and Day 3. No re-entries were allowed in this freezeout format.
Taiwan scored its third WSOP bracelet winner in history when Carlos Chang won this tournament. Chang’s career best $364,589 payday came along with his first-ever WSOP bracelet. The win increases his worldwide tourney winnings to more than $1.5 million.
Taipei's Chang now joins Pete Yen Han Chen (online Event 3 earlier in this series), and James Chen (2019) on the roster of Taiwan’s elite bracelet winners. Chang nearly won his first bracelet in 2019, when he scored a fourth-place finish in that year’s “The Closer” event.
This is a new event on the 2021 WSOP schedule. The $2,500 Freezeout is one of 12 freezeout tournaments listed on this year’s schedule. The uptick is likely in response to players who have criticized the WSOP for allowing re-buys in many tournaments, which gives an unfair advantage to professionals with higher bankrolls.
