WSOP Event #53: High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed)

Event #53 of the 2021 WSOP is $25,000 High Roller Pot-Limit Omaha (8-Handed). This four-day event started at 3 pm on Wednesday, October 27. Players were allowed to re-enter a single time if eliminated.

The $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller attracted major attention this year. Pot-limit Omaha is traditionally a popular game with the high rollers. Players get double the cards, and double the action. That fast action ups the excitement level. Meanwhile, the small edges keep the fish jumping by feeding them a tasty portion of good days. In result, the event drew a field of 212 players who ponied up for two-and-a-half Main Event buy-ins.

The prize pool reached a post-rake $5,008,500, with $1,251,860 of that set aside for first place, and 32 spots paid in total. The final table was international in nature. David Benyamine of France reached sixth place for $205,655, Veselin Karakitukov of Bulgaria wound up with $276,870, and Hong Kong's Ka Kwan Lau took second place and $773,708.

Daniel Negreanu fell short of the final table, as did other big names Josh Arieh, Ryan LaPlante, Jeff Gross, Joe Hachem, Felipe Ramos, JC Tran, Anthony Zinno, Erik Seidel, and Tommy Le. Shaun Deeb walked away with WSOP bracelet number 5, along with his first-place cash of $1,251,860.

This is the second-highest buy-in PLO event on the WSOP’s 2021 slate and it will attract a few hundred of the world’s best PLO players. Elite English pro Stephen Chidwick won this event in 2019. Chidwick topped a 278-entry field to claim his first WSOP bracelet and what was at the time the largest payday of his career, $1,618,417.
