Event #81 of the 2021 WSOP is the $800 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack Structure. This is part of a small scattering of sub-$1k events put on to give lower rollers a chance to take part in the WSOP festivities without springing for Main Event level buy-ins.
The $800 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack's modest buy-in drew a large field of 1,921 players, creating a prize pool of $1,352,384. That's astounding, considering that this event comes at the end of the series, when many players have already thrown in their WSOP towel.
The starting stacks were tall, but an aggressive blind structure made this into a fast-paced turbo event. After a hectic two days of play, Jason Wheeler came out on top, scoring his career-first WSOP gold bracelet and the top prize of $202,274.
This tourney began on November 18. Players were entitled to one rebuy only. The fast structure meant that despite the deep starting stacks and likelihood of the low price attracting a large field, this event only ran for two days. This is a new event on the schedule, so it does not have a defending champion yet.
