Darryll Fish is a perfectly suited misfit for the poker world. He dresses uniquely in his own way – one part Bohemian and one part poker player – and looks just as likely to pull a hacky sack from his pocket as a band of cash. He returned to Day 3 of the World Poker Tour Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open with an above average stack and zero plans to change anything up.

Set up for success

“No changes for today, going to keep playing my game,” he said. “This is my home casino, I’ve done well here over the years and I feel comfortable. Yesterday was smooth and I’m hoping for more of the same today.”

Over his career Fish pulled $1,667,215 out of the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood. He won his WPT title in the building as well at the 2018 WPT Lucky Hearts Poker Open for $511,604.

“I feel like we’re playing in my office,” he said. “There’s something to be said for homecourt advantage. I have a history here and knowing a lot of the players definitely helps.”

Expanding his tribe

Should Fish make the final table, he’ll have one day off before he jumps into his other passion – music festivals. “Two years ago, I started a festival called Miami Mushroom Fest with a couple of friends. We do events to educate people around mycology and all sorts of mushrooms.”

“We're doing a pop up at a big festival called Art With Me coming up,” said Fish. “We have a three-day thing with educational speakers, music and games that are all centered around mushrooms.” The festival runs December 8-10 in Miami.

Fish immersed himself into the festival lifestyle, finding a community not too different from poker. He said, “Funny enough, the biggest thing between both that I’ve noticed – and it’s a big reason why I love both so much – is that they both draw people from all walks of life.”

“There are very few things in the world where you might see an old lady and punk kid in the same atmosphere,” he said. “Music and poker are two things that religious boundaries, political boundaries and all the other things that separate us are set aside and people come together for the joy of one simple interest. I think it’s really beautiful.”

Based on Fish’s record at SHR does he expect to make the final 16 players for Day 4?

He said, “I try to have no expectations in life and go with the flow.”
