$10M tourney sets biggest overlay in online poker history

GGPoker is not averse to slapping huge guarantees on its online events, but things didn’t go to plan this week.

The GGMasters 6th Anniversary tournament came with a $10 million guarantee and fell $1,791,760 short, giving it a record GGPoker wouldn't have wanted – the largest overlay in online poker history.

It was always an ambitious target. GGPoker had slapped $10 million guarantees on the Anniversary events in 2023 and 2024, and missed both. 

The 2026 Anniversary special had seven Day 1 flights, with each one being run as a freezeout – meaning players could enter multiple flights. Despite this, GGPoker couldn't find the 72,464 entries it needed to make the monster guarantee. 

When late registration ended on the final Day 1 flight, the ticker had reached 59,480. GGPoker actually recouped $8,922,000 (the buy-in was $138 + $12), but the online overlay record is now set officially at $1,791,760.

The winner of the 6th Anniversary GGMasters will take home over $1 million.

Brazil leads the way

The tournament has now played down to the final table, with Brazilian Ramon Kropmanns leading the way. He's already recorded over $3M in winnings on GGPoker. 

The underdog story? Ireland’s ‘dueceswild’, with the second shortest stack of the nine, has just over $1K in prior winnings. The top prize here is 1,000x that – $1,108,712. All nine players are already guaranteed $110,430.

GGMasters beats the GOAT

The previous biggest overlay online was the PokerBaazi GOAT event in 2024, which guaranteed $2,975,000 and ended up overlaying $1,400,000. 

The biggest live overlay in history remains the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO), a $5,300 buy-in with a $10 million guarantee. The event saw a decrease of 37 percent in entries from the previous year, leaving the casino on the hook for $2,505,000 worth of overlay.

The GGMasters launched six years ago with a $300K guarantee. In 2023 and 2024, the Anniversary editions were branded 'Overlay Editions' and featured $10 million guarantees.

In 2025, GGPoker switched to a pure freezeout format with a reduced $5 million guarantee, but it was cancelled on Day 2 due to technical issues, with full refunds issued to all players.

Daniel Colman was the biggest beneficiary of the 2014 SHRPO overlay, winning the event for $1,446,710.
