When there’s $40m to be won, no one’s too good for a little expert advice.

And given that ACR Poker’s Online Super Series XL (OSS XL) has more than $40m guaranteed (that’s what makes it ‘XL’), we’d say it’s definitely a good time to get some words of wisdom from those in the know.

The series is already underway, running until May 27, with a mix of small, medium and large buy-ins and at least five tournaments with prize pools of $1m or more. There are also three leaderboards awarding a further $60k in added cash and prizes.

We spoke to ACR pros Chris Moorman (top left, above), Drew ‘BetOnDrew’ Gonzalez (top right), Ana Marquez (bottom right) and Chris Moneymaker (bottom left) to see what advice they could share to make the most of this plus-sized tourney series.

What key strategies would you recommend for players with limited bankrolls entering a big series like this?

Drew Gonzalez: Head over to the ACR Poker site and click the 'Promotions' tab where you can see the full OSS XL schedule. Figure out when you have the most time and energy to focus on events and then pick ahead of time which ones you REALLY want to play. It can be easy to just fire up the client and then hop in a game and not realize a much better event for you was just around the corner, but now you have four games up and can't play something you otherwise would have.

Ana Marquez: If you are a player with a smaller bankroll go for the smaller events and play some satellites!

Chris Moorman: Grind the satellites for the smaller fields at the higher end of your buy-in range. Often you can find overlays and people making big mistakes in satellite tournaments and if you max late reg them they can provide a strong satellite player a decent hourly whilst reducing variance at the same time.

Chris Moneymaker: There are many ways to get into events from spinning to satellites. Make a budget and stick to it, and it's ok to play smaller buy-ins.

What advice do you have for players transitioning to higher buy-in tournaments during OSS XL?

Moorman: Don’t be afraid to take days off if you aren’t feeling 100%, or drop down to smaller buy-ins if you are on a bad run in order to try and regain confidence. As far as scheduling goes I think it is important to schedule days off in advance and make sure you have fun plans for those days, so that you have things to look forward to outside of poker.

Gonzalez: Play satellites. ACR has a ton running all day, and if you can win some tickets it's basically like clipping coupons and going shopping!!!

Moneymaker: Bankroll management is obviously important, but you need more than you realize when jumping up in stakes. The schedule is laid out nicely so should not be much of an adjustment there.

Marquez: If you are considering transitioning to higher buy-ins, play very focused and think of those tournaments as shots you are willing to take due to the amazing value this series provides. As long as your bankroll can take those shots this time, there is nothing to worry about, play your best and enjoy.
