As the World Series of Poker Main Event nears its conclusion each year, the poker community inevitably starts asking which of the remaining players would make the best ambassador for the game.
In the years since Chris Moneymaker's historic win in 2003 and the ensuing boom in the game's global popularity, poker has been searching for a new face to take up the mantle.
Lucas Jumalon might be the man for the job.
Jumalon: 'Someone who brings new people to the table'
On Wednesday, the 22-year-old from Spokane, Washington emerged triumphant from a field of 9,208 entrants to win the 2026 WSOP Main Event.
The following day, Poker Royalty – a poker management and marketing agency – announced that Jumalon had joined its roster.
Jumalon signed with the agency on July 15, weeks before the final table began, underlining his ambition to become one of poker's leading ambassadors.
“It’s a pure feeling of euphoria,” Jumalon said in a press release. “My goal now is to be a real ambassador for this game — someone who brings new people to the table and makes poker look as good as it felt to win. Poker Royalty has done that for the biggest names in the sport for over twenty years, and I can’t think of a better team to help me get there.”

The ambassador we need
In the wake of Jumalon's victory, several respected figures in poker have praised both his play and the way he carried himself throughout the final table.
As a community, we should all be excited about Jumalon's willingness to step into the spotlight as a poker ambassador.
There are obvious benefits to winning the Main Event – no debate there – but there are also downsides to the publicity. Your decision-making at the table is questioned, criticized, and ridiculed on social media throughout the entirety of the tournament, and in the aftermath. There may be some who think you only won the tournament because you ran hotter than the sun.
Jumalon has handled both the praise and the negativity with a level of maturity beyond his years. For a kid in his early twenties, that's a surefire sign that he's ready to take up the Moneymaker mantle.
David Baker offered up his seal of approval – even before Jumalon had won the thing – and emphasized that an ambassador of his quality is something that "we desperately need in poker."
And Moneymaker himself is ready to pass the torch to Jumalon.
