The Wynn High Roller events continued this weekend. The series of $10k live events have proved relatively popular with Vegas poker pros. That's perhaps unsurprising given how many must have been getting cabin fever at home, playing against internet kids all summer.
The big story from this weekend's series was Alex Foxen's insane run at the Wynn. The high stakes specialist ended up heads-up in all three events this weekend. Still, he failed to close the deal in two of them.
Foxen has already got form in these small field events at the Wynn. The first round of these events started three weeks ago. He managed to cash in 4th place for $53,900 in one of four events that weekend.
The week after that, the Wynn put on another three $10k events. This time Foxen took 2nd place in one of them for $75,600.
This weekend his two runner-up spots and the first-place finish came to a nice round payout of $225,000. Not a bad R.O.I. over the series. It looks like all the time he's been spending with three-time WSOP bracelet winner Kristen Bicknell is paying dividends.
This weekend's haul brings his live tourney winnings up to $17,171,905 according to the Hendon Mob database.
Heads-up high rollers
This weekend the events have been a bit smaller than in previous weeks. The first three events all saw more than fifty entries, with the biggest event so far on Friday, December 4th with 64 entries ($640,000 prize pool).
The Thursday event got 19 entries and the Friday and Saturday games got 20 each. The smaller fields may go some way to explaining Foxen's impressive run, but it's not like these are soft games.
Vegas is home to some of the best players in the world, and Foxen's final tables this weekend saw him having to beat out the likes of Sean Winter, Aram Zobian, Sam Soverel, and Darren Elias.
It is also interesting to note that although the list of players who cashed sees plenty of repeat names across the three weeks, none of the winners were able to duplicate a first-place finish.
The Wynn tweeted about Foxen's win with the caption: "Congratulations Alex Foxen, winner of the final $10,500 NLH High Roller Event on December 19 for $108,000. Over the course of the 10 event series, Mr. Foxen cashed 5 times, winning $354,500."
That wraps up the high roller series for the year. We'll have to see if the winter spike allows the Wynn to stay open long enough to get a few more events in early 2021. Or if we'll be waiting indoors to see if the Biden-Harris promise of 100 million vaccine doses in their first 100 days is either rolled out successfully or proves to be yet another disappointment.
