It's busy season in Las Vegas right now with the World Series of Poker in full swing and no shortage of secondary tournament series running around town. With that said, there's one particular event taking place Friday, June 26, that you might not be aware of. There are no bracelets on the line, nor any six-figure-plus sums to claim.
Instead, there's a good cause.
The Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) has once again partnered with the Las Vegas Police Managers and Supervisors Association to organize its annual charity poker tournament. As in past years, the proceeds will benefit its Cops 4 Kids charitable initiative that raises money to award college scholarships to local students. And this year, the WPT Foundation has signed on as a partner – with the World Poker Tour (WPT) serving as presenting sponsor.
The Stirling Club in Las Vegas will play host to the evening's slate – which includes a silent auction and cocktail hour prior to the tournament start.
PokerOrg spoke with Troyce Krumme, Chairman of the LVPMSA charitable wing, to learn more about Friday's event and how the WPT Foundation came aboard.
Poker for good
It all started, as many business partnerships do, with a connect – from none other than Joey Ingram, a longtime supporter of the Cops 4 Kids initiative.
"A few years ago, Joey invited me as his guest to the WPT party during its World Championship in December," Krumme shared. "By happenstance, I ended up spending ten minutes chatting to Adam Pliska and he told me about his dad being a cop and doing everything he could to put Adam through school so that he could excel in the private sector.
"It was a compelling story and it really stuck with me – that he understands the value of education. So, I thought it was a match made in heaven and I reached out to Matt [Stout] and asked him about it."
With that, the wheels were in motion.
"One meeting led to another and then they were on board," Krumme said.
The Cops 4 Kids initiative has already raised upwards of $125,000 for its charitable aims – and they're not stopping anytime soon.
"We've given away $65,000 each of the past two years and we're doing it again this summer," Krumme told PokerOrg. "And we've got a pretty neat surprise this year."
If you want a sneak peek at the surprise, roll the tape on the post above.
And then start planning your strategy for the night – it's one you won't want to miss.
As Ingram told us: "It's one of my favorite summer events and it helps raise money for a good cause."
