WSOP.com wraps up 31-event US online series
The US-based portion of the World Series of Poker Online 2020 came to an end July 31, with 31 bracelets awarded in the 31-day series.
Nahrain Tamero's win in Event #31: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Championship wrapped up the unprecedented series. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the live version of the World Series of Poker, originally slated to run in Las Vegas from late May to mid-July.
In response, the WSOP announced an online series of bracelet events for the summer. The WSOP Online 2020 offered events for both US and international players, with 85 bracelets awarded overall.
The series included 31 bracelet events for US players, hosted on WSOP.com in Nevada and New Jersey. The international side of the series awards 54 more WSOP bracelets, with those events played on GGPoker.com.
With the US events wrapping up, here's a look at some of the biggest winners from the WSOP Online 2020 US series.
McKeehen adds to his legacy
Starting July 1, the US-based WSOP Online 2020 series ran one tournament per day throughout the month. The series yielded 31 different bracelet winners, with no players coming out with two or more wins.
Some of poker's biggest names added to their WSOP resumes with bracelet wins in the online series, including 2015 WSOP Main Event champion Joe McKeehen.
McKeehen topped the overall earnings list from US events, coming away with $369,632 in earnings. Most of that total came in Event #14: $3,200 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller, which McKeehen took down for a $352,985 first-place payday.
The win earned McKeehen his third career WSOP bracelet, and came in the biggest buy-in event from the US side of the WSOP Online 2020 schedule. McKeehen cashed eight times in the US series overall.
Other big winners
Ian Steinmann broke through for his first career bracelet win, taking down the championship in Event #27: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout. The win earned Steinmann a $110,557 winners prize.
Steinmann entered the series as a four-time WSOP Circuit Ring winner, and added a WSOP bracelet to his career accolades with the win. Steinman cashed 15 times in the US series, near the top of the total cashes list.
The total cashes list was topped, however, by Ryan Laplante. Laplante logged 17 cashes total in the US series, with Ben Yu following with 16 cashes. Steinman and Daniel Negreanu each finished with 15 cashes.
Torgersen, Tamero, Dunst cash for six figures
Ryan Torgersen finished second to McKeehen on the overall earnings list, ending the series with $337,060 in cashes. Torgersen posted impressive overall results throughout the series, including his first career bracelet win in Event #10: $600 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack for $172,362.
Torgersen came up just short of a bracelet in Event #9: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Max, finishing second for $116,379. He added a third final table appearance in the series with a third-place showing in Event #23: $500 No-Limit Hold'em Knockout, for another $42,343.
Tamero's win in the series finale vaulted him to third on the overall earnings list, ending with $310,832.
Tony Dunst earned his second career bracelet in Event #21: No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed, coming away with a $168,342 payday. Dunst finished fifth in overall series earnings with $239,448.
