Another EPT champion crowned - Main Event plays on
The first-ever all-online event from the European Poker Tour is just about finished, with just three events still playing from the 20-tournament EPT Online schedule.
Hosted by PokerStars, the 2020 EPT Online Series has produced a list of champions so far that reads like a who's who of poker. Day 9 action in the EPT Online series awarded one more EPT trophy, while the Main Event played one day close to a finish.
Day 9, which played out Monday, produced the following results:
Jens 'Jeans89' Kyllönen wins $2,100 Pot-Limit Omaha event
The final Pot-Limit Omaha event on the EPT Online schedule yielded one of the world's best PLO players as the champion. Jens 'Jeans89' Kyllönen of Finland added to his legend with a win in Event #17: $2,100 PLO 6-Max, earning $109,181 for the victory.
Kyllönen, one of the world's top PLO cash game and tournament players, topped a field of 286 entries in the win. He outlasted Hungarian player 'boerni' (2nd - $80,929) in the heads-up battle.
The top 35 players in the field took home a piece of the $572,000 prize pool, with all final table combatants earning at least a five-figure prize. Other players finishing in the final seven included 'doulas12' (3rd - $59,988), Miguel Seoane (4th - $44,465), PokerStars Team Online Pro Lex Veldhuis (5th - $32,959), 'GHOSTFACE9.8' (6th - $24,431) and Christopher Frank ($19,361).
Kyllönen went into the heads-up match with more than a two-to-one lead on 'boerni' but both players still had plenty of chips to work with. Kyllönen extended that to a six-to-one chip advantage at one point, but 'boerni' began to battle back.
The two players traded the chip lead throughout heads-up play, with Kyllönen beginning to pull away just over an hour into two-handed play.
The final hand saw all the remaining chips go in the middle on the river of a 6♣J♣9♦️K❤️7♦️ board. Kyllönen tabled T❤️8♠3❤️2♦️ for a straight, getting the best of his opponent's pair of queens with A♠Q♠Q♦️6♣.
EPT Online Main Event plays down to the final 72 players
Event #16: $5,200 NLHE Main Event completed Day 2 action Tuesday, and 72 players made it through to Day 3. The pinnacle event on the EPT Online schedule drew 1,304 total entries, with the prize pool far surpassing the $5 million guarantee and ending up at $6,520,000.
The remaining 72 challengers are all in the money, with the top 159 places paid. Ireland's Toby 'sadface11' Joyce went home with the chip lead after Day 2, bagging 146 big blinds.
Other top stacks going into Day 3 include Viacheslav 'VbV1990' Buldygin of Russia (129 big blinds), Canadian player 'TTWIST' (129 big blinds), Russia's 'Ruslancheeck' (117 big blinds), and Greece's 'PANIC.PLAYER' (102 big blinds).
Other big names still in contention at the end of Day 2 play included Timothy Adams (91 big blinds), David 'MissOracle' Yan (52 big blinds), Benjamin 'bencb789' Rolle (49 big blinds), and PokerStars Ambassador Ramon Colilas (35 big blinds).
The Main Event plays down to the nine-handed final table today, and those nine players come back Wednesday to play down to a champion. The winner takes home $1,019,082, the biggest prize of the EPT Online schedule.
