Online poker giant GGPoker has confirmed a new high watermark for player numbers on the site.

Last week the site saw over 900,000 players logged in at once, a new record for GGPoker which has risen to the top of the online traffic charts in recent years.

It was only around 8 months ago that the site was boasting about a new all-time high of 600,000 players online. That number has now been blown out of the water by another 50%.

Why now?

While it’s impossible to state for certain what’s behind the rise in GGPoker’s player pool, two major events are underway which could be significant factors.

The first is the GG World Festival, a tournament series which boasts the largest ever online series guarantee of $300 million. The series began on May 3, runs through to June 9, and features three main events each guaranteeing $10M in prize money. These take place on May 18, May 25 and June 1, with buy-ins ranging from $525 to $10,000.

The GG World Festival 2026 starts on May 3. The GG World Festival 2026 runs to June 9.

Another factor may be the upcoming World Series of Poker (WSOP), taking place in Las Vegas and starting less than two weeks from now. The WSOP is the biggest deal in poker, and taking part in its Main Event is on the bucket list of poker players worldwide.

GGPoker is a sister brand to the WSOP, and offers the chance to qualify online for the biggest live series in the world from home. And with the WSOP Express promotion, every player gets a free daily opportunity to take their first step on the path to qualification. Find out how to get started here.
