Last week, High Stakes Poker viewers watched on as Santhosh Suvarna and Andrew Robl tangled in a cooler of a pot that saw the former scoop in the biggest-ever pot in the show's storied history.
Suvarna and Robl were joined at the table by Stanley Tang, Nik "Airball" Arcot, Charles Yu, and Brandon Adams for another nosebleed $1,000/$2,000 battle. This week, Suvarna took on Robl once again in a pot that quickly escalated past the half-million dollar mark. In an uncharacteristically non-straddled pot, Tang came in for a raise to $5,000 with and picked up two callers - Suvarna with and Robl with .
The flop saw Robl check to the aggressor, Tang, who fired out a continuation bet of $7,000 with his two over cards and backdoor draws. Suvarna, with his open-ended straight draw, made the call and Robl came along as well.
If you're thinking of an action card, the on the turn might come to mind and the dealer did not disappoint. The turn connected with all three players to varying degrees as Suvarna added a flush draw to his open-ender, Tang picked up a gut-shot straight draw to the nuts, and Robl made a set.
With the action checked to him by both players, Suvarna fired out for $36,000 - nearly a pot-sized wager. Robl wasted no time getting more money in the middle, raising to $165,000. Tang got the message and bowed out, but Suvarna's multitude of outs kept him interested.
The river was one of those outs, improving Suvarna's hand to a flush and downing Robl's set. Despite the backdoor flush coming in, Robl fired out $80,000, still confident in the strength of his hand. Suvarna - perhaps concerned about losing to a higher flush or unsure if his hand could be called by worse if he raised - opted to merely call the bet, scooping in the $529,000 pot in the process.
